Sv\u00fdmi ilustracemi ovlivnil V\u00e1clav KAREL cel\u00e9 generace d\u011bt\u00ed.<br>J\u00edm kr\u00e1\u0161len\u00e9 knihy poh\u00e1dek a b\u00e1sni\u010dek jsou vyd\u00e1v\u00e1ny v\u202freedic\u00edch dodnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studoval na odborn\u00e9 keramick\u00e9 \u0161kole v Bechyni(1919), UMPRUM v Praze (1919\u201327) u prof.Ma\u0161ka a Fr.Kysely a je\u0161t\u011b pokra\u010doval na AVU u profesor\u016f Maxe \u0160vabinsk\u00e9ho a T.F.\u0160imona (1927\u201329). Karlov\u00fdm spolu\u017e\u00e1kem na studi\u00edch byl nap\u0159. Cyril Bouda. Po ukon\u010den\u00ed studi\u00ed byl Karel kr\u00e1tce na stipendijn\u00edm pobytu v Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jako grafik se zab\u00fdval zvl\u00e1\u0161t\u011b technikou d\u0159evorytu s uplatn\u011bn\u00edm ve voln\u00fdch listech. V jeho olejomalb\u011b p\u0159eva\u017eovaly krajinn\u00e9 motivy, portr\u00e9ty a kytice. V\u00e1clav Karel cel\u00fd \u017eivot t\u011b\u017ece sn\u00e1\u0161el fyzick\u00fd handicap po \u00faraze v d\u011btstv\u00ed, nerad se ukazoval na ve\u0159ejnosti<br>a tak se j\u00ed stranil. V\u016fbec prvn\u011b vystavoval v roce 1932 se Sdru\u017een\u00edm z\u00e1pado\u010desk\u00fdch v\u00fdtvarn\u00edk\u016f v Plzni. Samostatn\u011b vystavoval oleje, grafiky a kresby poprv\u00e9 v roce 1933 v Hradci Kr\u00e1lov\u00e9. V Topi\u010dov\u011b sal\u00f3nu vystavoval s Nez\u00e1visl\u00fdmi v letech 1933-35<br>Pravideln\u011b obes\u00edlal Zl\u00ednsk\u00fd sal\u00f3n. 0d roku 1939 byl \u010dlenem Um\u011bleck\u00e9 besedy a pravideln\u011b se z\u00fa\u010dast\u0148oval jej\u00edch v\u00fdstav, samostatn\u011b v Al\u0161ov\u011b s\u00edni UB v roce 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Americk\u00e9 bombardov\u00e1n\u00ed Prahy v \u00fanoru 1945 um\u011blce t\u011b\u017ece zas\u00e1hlo. Na rohu n\u00e1b\u0159e\u017e\u00ed a Resslovy ulice (kde nyn\u00ed stoj\u00ed Tan\u010d\u00edc\u00ed d\u016fm) byl bombou zni\u010den d\u016fm, ve kter\u00e9m Karel bydlel a kde m\u011bl i ateli\u00e9r. Cel\u00e9 dosavadn\u00ed mal\u00ed\u0159ovo d\u00edlo bylo zni\u010deno, s man\u017eelkou zachr\u00e1nili pouze hol\u00e9 \u017eivoty a Karel zvl\u00e1\u0161t\u011b litoval nenahraditeln\u00e9 ztr\u00e1ty sv\u00fdch z\u00e1pisn\u00edk\u016f a skic\u00e1\u0159\u016f. D\u00edky p\u0159\u00e1telstv\u00ed se sv\u011btov\u011b zn\u00e1m\u00fdm fotografem Josefem Sudkem se alespo\u0148 zachovala fotodokumentace n\u011bkter\u00fdch jeho zni\u010den\u00fdch obraz\u016f a kreseb. Um\u011blec byl p\u0159inucen za\u010d\u00ednat existen\u010dn\u011b znovu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proto v dal\u0161\u00ed sv\u00e9 tvorb\u011b up\u0159ednostnil ilustra\u010dn\u00ed pr\u00e1ci, nejprve pro d\u011btsk\u00e9 \u010dasopisy (p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm Mate\u0159\u00eddou\u0161ka), ale kreslil tak\u00e9 pohlednice, ilustroval kalend\u00e1\u0159e, leporela, n\u00e1st\u011bnn\u00e9 tabule \u017div\u00e9 abecedy pro prvn\u00e1\u010dky a \u010d\u00edtanky. V\u00a0roce 1950 se stal \u010dlenem<br>S\u010cVU, od roku 1952 tak\u00e9 \u010dlenem S\u010cUG Hollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V pades\u00e1t\u00fdch a \u0161edes\u00e1t\u00fdch letech vych\u00e1zely s Karlov\u00fdmi ilustracemi \u010desk\u00e9 n\u00e1rodn\u00ed poh\u00e1dky K.J.Erbena a B.N\u011bmcov\u00e9, Erbenova Kytice, M\u00e1ch\u016fv m\u00e1j, b\u00e1snick\u00e9 sb\u00edrky Jana Nerudy, knihy J.V.Sl\u00e1dka, \u0159\u00edkadla a p\u0159\u00edhody ze sv\u011bta d\u011bt\u00ed a p\u0159\u00edrody od J.Ko\u017e\u00ed\u0161ka a dal\u0161\u00ed knihy, nap\u0159. M. Majerov\u00e9, F.L. \u010celakovsk\u00e9ho, Turgen\u011bvovy Lovcovy z\u00e1pisky, atd. Sou\u010dasn\u00e1 st\u0159edn\u00ed a star\u0161\u00ed generace nezn\u00e1 jm\u00e9no KAREL, ale jako obl\u00edben\u00e9 kn\u00ed\u017eky sv\u00e9ho d\u011btstv\u00ed ozna\u010d\u00ed pr\u00e1v\u011b ty s Karlov\u00fdmi ilustracemi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V roce 1957 v Al\u0161ov\u011b s\u00edni Um\u011bleck\u00e9 besedy Karel p\u0159edstavil sv\u00e9 obs\u00e1hl\u00e9 ilustra\u010dn\u00ed d\u00edlo. Ne\u00faprosn\u00e9 term\u00edny ilustra\u010dn\u00edch zak\u00e1zek neposkytovaly dostatek \u010dasu na volnou tvorbu. Jen p\u0159es l\u00e9to se um\u011blec vracel k olejomalb\u011b, ale obrazy pak dlouho \u010dekaly na sv\u00e9 dokon\u010den\u00ed, a tak jich je m\u00e1lo signov\u00e1no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V \u0161edes\u00e1t\u00fdch letech se z\u00fa\u010dast\u0148oval kolektivn\u00edch presentac\u00ed \u010deskoslovensk\u00e9ho v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed v\u00a0obou \u010d\u00e1stech N\u011bmecka (NDR, NSR), Anglii, Francii, \u010c\u00edn\u011b, Vietnamu a SSSR. A samostatn\u011b se z\u00fa\u010dastnil Bien\u00e1le v italsk\u00fdch Ben\u00e1tk\u00e1ch. Na pra\u017esk\u00e9m sal\u00f3nu 1968 vzbudil velkou pozornost jeho obraz Sys\u00edfos, kter\u00fd byl vyhl\u00e1\u0161en nejlep\u0161\u00edm obrazem na v\u00fdstav\u011b, ten byl zakoupen Klatovskou galeri\u00ed a je nyn\u00ed v\u00a0deposit\u00e1\u0159i z\u00e1mku Klenov\u00e1. Proti \u201ebratrsk\u00e9 pomoci\u201c ze srpna 1968 protestoval Karel obrazem Stromov\u00e1 znamen\u00ed symbolizuj\u00edc\u00ed konec Pra\u017esk\u00e9ho jara (dva kmeny = \u010desk\u00fd slovensk\u00fd n\u00e1rod, pt\u00e1\u010dek, slun\u00ed\u010dko, srd\u00ed\u010dka zamilovan\u00fdch s\u00a0inici\u00e1lami Ludv\u00edka Svobody, Alexandra Dub\u010deka, atd. a z v\u00fdchodu p\u0159il\u00e9taj\u00ed \u010dern\u00ed havrani = okupa\u010dn\u00ed arm\u00e1dy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posmrtn\u011b se konaly v Praze dv\u011b souborn\u00e9 v\u00fdstavy v galerii \u010cs. spisovatele 1971 a 77Pozd\u011bji a\u017e do konce tis\u00edcilet\u00ed bylo d\u00edlo V\u00e1clava Karla ve\u0159ejnosti p\u0159ipom\u00edn\u00e1no ji\u017e jen na men\u0161\u00edch v\u00fdstav\u00e1ch, nap\u0159. v Nymburku a T\u0159eboni, ale tak\u00e9 v It\u00e1lii a v\u00a0\u0158ecku. Z galerijn\u00edch deposit\u00e1\u0159\u016f se Karlovy obrazy objevily p\u0159i pra\u017esk\u00fdch p\u0159ehl\u00eddk\u00e1ch \u010desk\u00e9ho<br>v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed v J\u00edzd\u00e1rn\u011b Pra\u017esk\u00e9ho hradu a v\u00fdstavn\u00ed s\u00edni M\u00e1nes (125 let Um\u011bleck\u00e9 besedy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K\u00a0v\u00fdro\u010d\u00ed 100 let narozen\u00ed (2002) a je\u0161t\u011b v\u00a0r. 2003 se po\u0159\u00e1daly v\u00fdstavy v\u00a0Z\u00e1pado\u010desk\u00e9 galerii v\u00a0Plzni, v\u00a0Praze na Vy\u0161ehrad\u011b, v GVU v\u00a0Havl\u00ed\u010dkov\u011b Brod\u011b a tak\u00e9 v\u00a0zahrani\u010d\u00ed v\u00a0italsk\u00e9 Brescii a v\u00a0\u010cesk\u00e9m centru v\u00a0sask\u00fdch Dr\u00e1\u017e\u010fanech. Z\u00a0n\u00e1sleduj\u00edc\u00edch v\u00fdstav a\u017e<br>do sou\u010dasnosti (2024) je nutno p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm zm\u00ednit v\u00fdstavu v\u00a0galerii Bohemia Sekt ve Star\u00e9m Plzenci 2009, ve Slov\u00e1ck\u00e9 galerii v\u00a0Uhersk\u00e9m Hradi\u0161ti 2012 a v\u00a0Bechyni v\u00a0roce 2019 k\u00a0pades\u00e1t\u00e9mu v\u00fdro\u010d\u00ed \u00famrt\u00ed um\u011blce a ke stolet\u00e9mu v\u00fdro\u010d\u00ed Karlovy maturity na<br>m\u00edstn\u00ed v\u011bhlasn\u00e9 keramick\u00e9 \u0161kole. Dosud posledn\u00ed v\u00fdstavy se konaly ve Star\u00e9m z\u00e1mku v\u00a0Ho\u0159ovic\u00edch 2021, v\u00a0dal\u0161\u00edm roce 2022 v\u00a0rodn\u00e9m m\u011bst\u011b J.V.Sl\u00e1dka ve Zbirohu v\u00a0Z\u00e1pado\u010desk\u00e9 galerii v\u00a0Plzni a kone\u010dn\u011b v\u00a0Beroun\u011b 2024 a aktu\u00e1ln\u011b v\u00a0Rakovn\u00edku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ve sb\u00edrk\u00e1ch je V\u00e1clav Karel mj. zastoupen v N\u00e1rodn\u00ed galerii, v Z\u00e1pado\u010desk\u00e9 galerii v Plzni, v Galerii v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed v Havl\u00ed\u010dkov\u011b Brod\u011b, jeho ilustrace a kresby jsou tak\u00e9 v N\u00e1rodn\u00edm museu a v Pam\u00e1tn\u00edku n\u00e1rodn\u00edho p\u00edsemnictv\u00ed na Strahov\u011b i v dal\u0161\u00edch ve\u0159ejn\u00fdch instituc\u00edch (nap\u0159. ministerstva \u0161kolstv\u00ed a kultury), apod.) a d\u00e1le v soukrom\u00fdch sb\u00edrk\u00e1ch \u010desk\u00fdch i zahrani\u010dn\u00edch sb\u011bratel\u016f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karlovy ilustrace st\u00e1le \u017eij\u00ed, d\u00edky zvl\u00e1\u0161t\u011b nakladatelstv\u00edm Svojtka, Albatros a Sun se na knihkupeck\u00fdch pultech znovu a znovu objevuj\u00ed kn\u00ed\u017eky s\u00a0Karlov\u00fdm ilustra\u010dn\u00edm doprovodem \u2013 viz p\u0159ehled ilustra\u010dn\u00ed tvorby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Z osobn\u00edho a um\u011bleck\u00e9ho \u017eivota je\u0161t\u011b stoj\u00ed za zm\u00ednku, \u017ee mezi Karlovy p\u0159\u00e1tele pat\u0159ili i mal\u00ed\u0159i Zrzav\u00fd, Sedl\u00e1\u010dek, Bartovsk\u00fd, Adriena \u0160imotov\u00e1 s\u00a0Ji\u0159\u00edm Johnem, spisovatel Lad. Stehl\u00edk, skladatel\u00e9 Trojan a Klement Slavick\u00fd. V Karlov\u011b ateli\u00e9ru v Praze na Letn\u00e9 U Akademie se \u010dasto zastavovali nejen k popov\u00edd\u00e1n\u00ed, ale i na parti\u010dku mari\u00e1\u0161e V\u00e1clav Bo\u0161t\u00edk a Ji\u0159\u00ed John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u0159i devades\u00e1t\u00e9m v\u00fdro\u010d\u00ed um\u011blcova narozen\u00ed vzpom\u00ednala v Lidov\u00fdch novin\u00e1ch pr\u00e1v\u011b Johnova \u017eena Adriena \u0160imotov\u00e1:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201e<em>&#8230;byli jsme mlad\u00ed, j\u00e1 a m\u016fj mu\u017e mal\u00ed\u0159 a grafik Ji\u0159\u00ed John, kdy\u017e jsme se s\u00a0Karlem a n\u011bkolika dal\u0161\u00edmi um\u011blci star\u0161\u00ed generace setkali v\u00a0Um\u011bleck\u00e9 besed\u011b. Bylo to v dob\u011b, kdy modern\u00ed um\u011bn\u00ed bylo v\u0161emi zp\u016fsoby potla\u010dov\u00e1no. Pr\u00e1v\u011b V\u00e1clav Karel se sv\u00fdm p\u0159\u00edtelem V\u00e1clavem Bartovsk\u00fdm n\u00e1m velmi vy\u0161li vst\u0159\u00edc a podpo\u0159ili na\u0161e snahy, kter\u00e9 v on\u00e9 dob\u011b nebylo snadn\u00e9 prosazovat. Zcela mimo\u0159\u00e1dn\u00e1 citlivost a jemnost V\u00e1clava Karla umo\u017enila otev\u0159en\u00fd dialog a postupn\u011b jsme se stali p\u0159\u00e1teli. Na\u0161e ateli\u00e9ry byly bl\u00edzko a n\u00e1\u0161 vz\u00e1jemn\u00fd styk byl velmi \u010dast\u00fd. Jako v\u00fdtvarn\u00edk mohu \u0159\u00edci, \u017ee mne doj\u00edmala m\u00edra poetick\u00e9ho vid\u011bn\u00ed jeho sv\u011bta: mot\u00fdli, kv\u011btiny, pohled na intimn\u00ed \u00fasek p\u0159\u00edrody, skoro poh\u00e1dkov\u00e1 symbolika. Jeho nejlep\u0161\u00ed pr\u00e1ce p\u0159ipom\u00ednaj\u00ed svou lyrickou fantasknost\u00ed obrazy francouzsk\u00e9ho mal\u00ed\u0159e Odilona Redona. Karel byl velmi dobr\u00fd ilustr\u00e1tor d\u011btsk\u00fdch knih. N\u011bkdy ho tato zku\u0161enost zat\u011b\u017eovala a tak, kdy\u017e p\u0159ech\u00e1zel op\u011bt k voln\u00e9 tvorb\u011b, musel p\u0159ekon\u00e1vat \u00faskal\u00ed ur\u010dit\u00e9 popisnosti. Ale o to v\u011bt\u0161\u00ed pak byla jeho radost z nov\u011b nabyt\u00e9 tv\u016fr\u010d\u00ed svobody. V z\u00e1v\u011bru sv\u00e9ho \u017eivota vytvo\u0159il V\u00e1clav Karel mal\u00e9 kresby = dekalky, velmi poetick\u00e9 a nekonven\u010dn\u00ed. Dva takov\u00e9 cykly kresbi\u010dek nazval Osam\u011bl\u00e9 ostrovy a Opu\u0161t\u011bn\u00e9 tr\u016fny. S\u00e1m je pova\u017eoval za svou soukromou radost, za hru, ale j\u00e1 je pova\u017euji za nejsvobodn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed vyj\u00e1d\u0159en\u00ed jeho n\u011b\u017en\u00e9 poetick\u00e9 du\u0161e.
